Not all wood is destined for greatness on your floors, walls or ceilings. But wooden barrels are as important to the liquor industries as wooden planks are to us.

Approaching the completion of his Masters degree in mechanical engineering, Alastair Tatton was looking for ways to make some extra money, so he built a cocktail bar. He turned out to be good at it, his mobile cocktail based business expanded and four years later he was joined by marketeer Stephen Thompson. Together they developed Mixology Events, offering a selection of cocktail-based services including mobile bar hires and cocktail making classes to over 6000 guests a year, as well as opening a couple of highly successful, highly rated London cocktail bars.

Earlier this year the duo took their Mixology Events experience even further and opened TT Liquor, a multi-faceted establishment for all things related to cocktails, spirits, and high-quality alcoholic beverages, complete with cellar bar, tasting vaults and specialist liquor store.

TT Liquor’s expertise came to our attention when devising cocktails for the launch of our Hand Grade floor installation during Clerkenwell Design Week. When we learned that we have a common link in wood – it contributes up to 60% of the flavour of a single malt Scotch – we decided that a TT Liquor tasting experience at our Clerkenwell showrooms would prove excellent entertainment for many Havwoods’ customers. Not only do you have a chance to sample a handpicked selection of your spirit of choice, you will also learn about its origins, characteristics and qualities from an industry expert in grain or plant based alcohols.

The first two tastings – one for whisk(e)y and one for rum – will be held in September to thank those of you who respond to our questionnaire.
